Assignment 11: Research on Henri Cartier Bresson
Here the harsh shadow of the building and the bright colored building create an amazing contrast which does seem harsh but also enhances the photographs and creates a perfect balance in terms of grayscale.
Henri Cartier Bresson Believed in creating frames in a split of a second, he believed that photographers are the unwanted crowd at a place, thus the predictability is what makes a good photographer. Here he has tried to capture the movement in the foreground and the stillness in the background simultaneously.
This seems to be an example of street photography and the fact that he has achieved the exact moment which changes in a split second so perfectly. The natural light falling on the men in uniforms also highlights their struggle as they all try to be under a cloth. His observation and the prediction of that one moment when the photo is clicked shows in the photograph.
This is the photograph of the cremation of Mahatma Gandhi. Here the correct essence of how the nation was in a turmoil as they lost such a great freedom fighter is captured. A wide shot seems a perfect choice with the cremation taking place right in the center.
In this picture he has attempted to capture the moment in a fraction of a second and also tries to convey the intensity of the situation that was forming at that moment.
This photo conveys the irony of how being at the same place, the situations of two people can be so different. He captures the brutal division of different strata of the society through this frame and way the frame is composed conveys that idea, with the placement of the car at the upper half of the frame, maybe indicating superiority.
The wide shot of a place in Matera, Basilicata, Italy, seems to be overwhelming but it creates a movement across the entire photograph as the boy in the foreground is placed and an attempt to Rule of thirds is made.
A depth of field has been created as the sharp foreground gently recedes into a blur background thus making the viewer feel involved in the photograph itself.
The portraiture and the subject's placement at the bottom corner gives a breathing space, creates a depth of field and also provides an environment to the subject but at the same time very tactfully establishes the subject in the foreground.
The rule of odds might have been applied here to portray the relationship of the subjects with each better and overall is a very pleasant photograph capturing 3 friends chatting with each other.
